ThoughtForDay - July 4 []

July 4

Quick Thought:

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring
lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that
the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 1 Peter 5:8-9

Mark 7:14-23
And after He (Jesus) called the multitude to Him again, He began saying to them,
"Listen to Me, all of you, and understand: there is nothing outside the man which
going into him can defile him; but the things which proceed out of the man are what
defile the man. If any man has ears to hear, let him hear."

And when leaving the multitude, He had entered the house, His disciples questioned
Him about the parable. And He said to them, "Are you so lacking in understanding
also? Do you not understand that whatever goes into the man from outside cannot
defile him; because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and is
eliminated?" (Thus He declared all foods clean.)
And He was saying, "That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the
man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications,
thefts, murders, adulteries, deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit,
sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness. "All these evil things proceed
from within and defile the man." Mark 7:14-23 (NAS)

John 1:18-23
No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten God (Jesus), who is in the bosom
of the Father, He has explained Him.

And this is the witness of John (the baptizer), when the Jews sent to him priests
and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?" And he (John) confessed, and
did not deny, and he confessed, "I am not the Christ."

And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" And he (John) said, "I am not."
"Are you the Prophet?" And he (John) answered, "No."

They said then to him (to John), "Who are you, so that we may give an answer to
those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?" He said, "I am a voice of one
crying in the wilderness, 'Make straight the way of the Lord,' as Isaiah the prophet
said." John 1:18-23 (NAS)
