2 Corinthians 5:17-21 New International Version (NIV)
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
If you grasp what we are talking about here, it will change your life. You will have the confidence to handle any situation. You will not fear anything that will come your way. You will go through life with a grace and ease that will be unstoppable. You will find the cares and the worries of this life no longer hook you and drag you down. You will be confidently in control no matter what happens.
Ephesians 2:8-10 New International Version (NIV)
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Good works did not save us. We do good works because we are saved. Good works are an expression of love and appreciation for what God has done. Good works will not get us into heaven. Our salvation was settled the moment we received Jesus. All that is left is for us to do the good works that God has called us to do.
Our righteousness is not based on our good works. Our righteousness is based on what Jesus did at the cross.
Isaiah 53:10-11 New Living Translation (NLT)
10 But it was the LORD's good plan to crush him and fill him with grief. Yet when his life is made an offering for sin, he will have a multitude of children, many heirs. He will enjoy a long life, and the LORD's plan will prosper in his hands. 11 When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied. And because of what he has experienced, my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins.
Jesus became sin so that we could become the righteousness of God.
Speak the Word: Father, Jesus became sin so that I could become the righteousness of God. My good works do not make me righteous, Jesus made me righteous.
