Luke 20:9-16

And He (Jesus) began to tell the people this parable: "A man planted a vineyard
and rented it out to vine-growers, and went on a journey for a long time.
"And at the harvest time he sent a slave to the vine-growers, in order that they
might give him some of the produce of the vineyard; but the vine-growers beat him
and sent him away empty-handed. And he proceeded to send another slave; and they
beat him also and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty- handed. And
he proceeded to send a third; and this one also they wounded and cast out.
"And the owner of the vineyard said, 'What shall I do? I will send my beloved son;
perhaps they will respect him.' But when the vine-growers saw him, they reasoned
with one another, saying, 'This is the heir; let us kill him that the inheritance
may be ours.'"
And they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What, therefore, will the
owner of the vineyard do to them? He will come and destroy these vine- growers
and will give the vineyard to others." And when they heard it, they said, "May it

John 18:28-40
They led Jesus therefore from Caiaphas into the Praetorium, and it was early; and
they themselves did not enter into the Praetorium in order that they might not be
defiled, but might eat the Passover. Pilate therefore went out to them, and said,
"What accusation do you bring against this Man?" They answered and said to him,
"If this Man were not an evildoer, we would not have delivered Him up to you."

Pilate therefore said to them, "Take Him yourselves, and judge Him according to
your law." The Jews said to him, "We are not permitted to put anyone to death,"
that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled, which He spoke, signifying by what kind
of death He was about to die. Pilate therefore entered again into the Praetorium,
and summoned Jesus, and said to Him, "Are You the King of the Jews?"

Jesus answered, "Are you saying this on your own initiative, or did others tell
you about Me?" Pilate answered, "I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief
priests delivered You up to me; what have You done?" Jesus answered, "My kingdom
is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would
be fighting, that I might not be delivered up to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom
is not of this realm."

Pilate therefore said to Him, "So You are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say correctly
that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world,
to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice." Pilate
said to Him, "What is truth?" And when he had said this, he went out again to the
Jews, and said to them, "I find no guilt in Him. But you have a custom, that I should
release someone for you at the Passover; do you wish then that I release for you
the King of the Jews?"

Therefore they cried out again, saying, "Not this Man, but Barabbas." Now Barabbas
was a robber. John 18:28-40 (NAS)
