ThoughtForDay - September 1

Quick Thought:

"The LORD sat enthroned at the Flood, and the LORD sits as King forever. The LORD
will give strength to His people; the LORD will bless His people with peace." Psalm
29:10-11 (NKJ)

Mark 15:39-47

"And when the centurion, who was standing right in front of Him (Jesus), saw the
way He breathed His last, he said, "Truly this man was the Son of God!" And there
were also some women looking on from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene,
and Mary the mother of James the Less and Joses, and Salome. And when He was in
Galilee, they used to follow Him and minister to Him; and there were many other
women who had come up with Him to Jerusalem."

"And when evening had already come, because it was the preparation day, that is,
the day before the Sabbath, Joseph of Arimathea came, a prominent member of the
Council, who himself was waiting for the kingdom of God; and he gathered up courage
and went in before Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus."

"And Pilate wondered if He was dead by this time, and summoning the centurion, he
questioned him as to whether He was already dead. And ascertaining this from the
centurion, he granted the body to Joseph."

"And Joseph bought a linen cloth, took Him down, wrapped Him in the linen cloth,
and laid Him in a tomb which had been hewn out in the rock; and he rolled a stone
against the entrance of the tomb. And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses
were looking on to see where He was laid." Mark 15:39-47 (NAS)

John 11:28-37
"And when she (Martha) had said this, she went away, and called Mary her sister,
saying secretly, "The Teacher (Jesus) is here, and is calling for you." And when
she heard it, she arose quickly, and was coming to Him."

"Now Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was still in the place where Martha
met Him. The Jews then who were with her in the house, and consoling her, when they
saw that Mary rose up quickly and went out, followed her, supposing that she was
going to the tomb to weep there. Therefore, when Mary came where Jesus was, she
saw Him, and fell at His feet, saying to Him, "Lord, if You had been here, my brother
would not have died."

"When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her, also weeping,
He was deeply moved in spirit, and was troubled, and said, "Where have you laid
him?" They said to Him, "Lord, come and see."

"Jesus wept. And so the Jews were saying, "Behold how He loved him!" But some of
them said, "Could not this man, who opened the eyes of him who was blind, have
kept this man also from dying?" John 11:28-37 (NAS)
